The Social Networks

Unfortunately I woke up today at 06:00... After 45' trying to get back to sleep, I decided to deal with it and opened my laptop. After checking my e-mail account I wanted to check my social network accounts. Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Plaxo etc...

... but both Facebook and Twitter were on 'over capacity' mode and could not log in. As a Scorpio I hit refresh so many times that for a minute I thought the arrow has changed direction... :-)

According to wikipedia, Facebook has 500.000.000 registered users and Twitter 160.000.000. But there are also other social networks that we here in Europe are not so familiar with, as Vkontakte that has 91.600.000 Russian speaking users.

Social networks have become such a part of our day life that are addicted. It is something like smoking and drinking coffee. I don't do either, but I'm logged (not necessary actively) almost all day long. Ofcourse the real life is out there, but even after or while living  it, you feel the need to share it on your wall...

My REAL friends, the ones I'm having loooong coffee breaks, dinners and drinks, always though of me as a social person, so these networks were just one more way for me to communicate. I respect my friends that have no idea how all these, but I can not understand it though.

After having watched  the movie 'The Social Network'  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1285016/ a few days ago, 2 thoughts passed my mind:

1. the rapid development of technology has made us all looking for our best photo profile  to upload and reading books on how to increase our company's revenue through social networks/media

2. innovation can become commodity easily after a while... as people tend to get things for granted, all these potential Zuckerberg Harvard students, must soon find something new to provoke us.
